I am very proud to be working in association with Sims IVF in Dublin. Together with Kate Curtis, Midwife and Acupuncturist, I provided acupuncture to patients of Sims in-house on the days of embryo transfer.
Research shows that acupuncture not only decreases cortisol levels (the stress hormone) but that it also has a positive influence on the arterial blood flow to the uterus. Acupuncture has been shown to improve endometrial receptivity, egg production and FSH levels. Studies have been produced that show higher clinical pregnancy rates in those who used acupuncture before and after embryo transfer. The British Acupuncture Council provide a very interesting review of the research on their website, here.
Every patient is different and therefore faces different challenges to getting pregnant. Roughly 20% of infertility cases are diagnosed as unknown cause, that is a significant number. I firmly believe that the influence stress has on the endocrine system must account for a great number of these cases.
I provide acupuncture at all stages of the IVF course and offer treatment on the day of embryo transfer.
Additionally I see patients of all other IVF clinics from my office in Dublin.
